Spring is in the Air at Wing and Wool Homestead!
The days are getting longer, the air is warming, and the farm is buzzing with the promise of a new season. Spring is always an exciting time here at Wing and Wool Homestead, and this year is shaping up to be no exception!
Shearing Weekend Success Last weekend, we completed one of the most anticipated tasks of the season—shearing our sheep! It’s always a rewarding experience, and this year’s fleeces are simply beautiful. I spent the weekend processing them, marveling at their quality and texture. Now, the next steps begin: washing, drying, and carding to prepare the wool for spinning and crafting.

Lambing Season is Upon Us Our ewes are starting to bag up, which means lambing could happen any day now! This is one of the most exciting yet nerve-wracking times on the farm, as we eagerly await the arrival of new life. We’ve stocked up on lamb milk replacer just in case, ensuring that we are ready to lend a helping hand if needed.

New Chicks Arriving This Week The first batch of chicks for the year is on its way! We will have Delaware, Chocolate Orpington, and Easter Eggers, some of which will be available for sale. If you’ve been thinking about adding some new feathered friends to your flock, keep an eye out for updates on availability.
Garden Planning Begins With all the excitement happening around the animals, we are also turning our thoughts to the garden. Starting seeds is right around the corner, and we’re finalizing our planting plans. My favorite seed distributor, DT Seeds, is currently backordered by almost a month—so if you plan to order from them or another local supplier, now is the time! Don’t wait too long, or you might miss out on the best varieties for the season.

Woodworking Projects Underway Daniel has been busy in the workshop! He recently finished a beautiful wooden dresser for me, and now he is in the finishing stages of some rolling pins. Next, he’ll be moving on to crafting a brand-new dining room table for us. It’s always amazing to see his craftsmanship come to life!

Exciting Updates for the Farm Our farm website is currently undergoing a facelift, including a (hopefully) much easier-to-use farm shop. We’re excited to make it more accessible and streamlined for all our customers! In other great news, we had our first fiber sale on Etsy—yay! It’s a big milestone for us, and we can’t wait to continue sharing our high-quality fiber with fellow enthusiasts.
Spring is truly a time of renewal and growth, and we can’t wait to see what the season brings. Stay tuned for updates on lambing, chick arrivals, and all the other happenings here at Wing and Wool Homestead. Wishing you a joyful and productive start to spring!
